Thanks

During the year 1882 missionaries came through Rochester, Butler, Kentucky. There they taught many who were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Among them were James William Hendricks [my gg grandfather] and his family. They had known to listen to the missionaries as James' wife, Lucy had dreamt* of them and had been shown their faces. One of the missionaries was a man by the name of Jacob G. Bigler. I found this picture of him and felt it a fitting tribute to thank him for bringing the gospel to this part of my family. I still search for the missionaries who brought the word to my gg grandmother McGrath. How grateful I am for the sacrifices of these men...

*Devin had a similar experience while serving as a missionary in Venezuela. A woman dreamt of two missionaries who were baptizing her. When Devin and his companion knocked on her door she knew to listen but was a little confused as she recognized Devin but not his companion. A few days later the companion was transferred and the new companion was the one she had dreamt of and who attended her baptism. The Lord knows his people and prepares them for the message of the missionaries even to this day.

Christmas Eve

We spent Christmas Eve at Carraba's near Trevor's and then went to Silver Spring, Maryland. The Washington DC temple grounds were packed with families from all over the world. There was a live nativity story that was absolutely beautiful, nativities and trees from all over the world as well along with films and concerts. If a person couldn't find Christ there they were not going to find him anywhere.

On Top of The World!

Trevor went on a campout friday evening with his ward's Boy Scout Troop. It was cold and rainy with a little snow on the ground. He was surprised to find out that they were going to "hike" Old Rag Mountain in the Shenandoahs. It was a rough climb. [Two scouts and one of the other leaders couldn't make the entire trip and had to be rescued by rangers.] Here is Trevor at the top...

Make A Living Wreath

I made this wreath at a Garden Club workshop taught by Nancy Sakala. I just LOVE it! First, take a wire wreath frame and cover it with a nice layer of moss [sphagnum or spanish] and then wrap that in black plastic strips. [make these by cutting 3 inch strips from a black plastic garbage bag] Make sure they are tight. You can secure the ends with floral pins or straight pins. Once that is accomplished then start filling in your wreath frame with ivy and/or pachysandra cut with 2 inch stems by poking a slit with a knife and inserting the plant. Once it is covered then soak the wreath to get the moss nice and moist. Keep it on a round glass platter that has a little lip. Insert a hurricane glass in the middle with a candle for a beautiful table centerpiece. As the plants send out roots through the wet moss they will take root. In the spring plant them in your garden! Then, have a Merry Christmas all year long...
